Acharei Kiddush - Jane Ziegelman, author of 97 Orchard

Jane Ziegelman, author of 97 Orchard - An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement is our guest. Her talk will focus onbook_cover food and the immigrant experience in the Lower East Side – the interplay of different cultures, cuisines, recipes and groups and the way people kept their cultures alive through food. Her book, just released, focuses on five families that lived at the same address over a five-decade period.

Midnight Run

WHAT is Midnight Run? Westchester volunteers bringing clothing, food, and a little companionship to homeless people living on the streets of Manhattan. BAS is one of many houses of worship and civic groups that sign up for routes and dates. We participate once every quarter, on a Saturday night.

Harvest the last vegetables of the season from the Elm Street Garden and help with a seasonal clean-up for the winter.

It's a full morning-- Shop for books, find out about BAS chevras and at 11:30am enjoy a lecture by Irene Dash about "The American Musical Shakespeare and the Jewish Voice".
