Meet David Sasso – Our Cantor!

David Sasso joined Bet Am Shalom as our cantor in July 2026. David will once again serve as our High Holy Days Cantor, as well as lead prayer on many Shabbatot and on the Jewish holidays throughout the year. With his many musical skills, David will help facilitate our upcoming monthly Friday Kabbalat Shabbat “Shabbat Zimrah” services.

David Sasso is a musician and psychiatrist in Connecticut. Previously, he has served as Cantorial Soloist for the High Holy Days at the historic synagogue in St. Thomas, USVI, where he has family ancestry. David is an avid student of hazzanut and Jewish music in all its forms.

David grew up in Indianapolis, the son of Rabbis Dennis and Sandy Eisenberg Sasso, who were the first rabbinic couple in Jewish history and both early graduates of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. He studied music composition and voice at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music before going on to medical school at Northwestern University and psychiatry training at Yale University, where he is now on faculty as a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist.

David has composed many musical works on Jewish themes, including classical art songs and choral music. He is also a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, singing lead vocals and playing mandolin and guitar on the recent recording of his original Erev Shabbat bluegrass service, Sasson v’Simcha.
