Acharei Kiddush: Environmental Injustice right here in Westchester: The Wheelabrator

Environmental Injustice in Westchester resides in the Wheelabrator, destination of all our garbage. It is an obsolete and expensive “waste-to-energy” incinerator in Peekskill NY, in a disadvantaged area of the community, that pollutes the entire county.
Our speaker, Dr. Courtney Williams, will guide us in how to reduce our waste stream and raise our voices for a just, sustainable, affordable solution. She holds a B.S. in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics from Yale University and a PhD in Molecular Biology from Princeton University, completing her post-doc in biological engineering at MIT. She is now a cancer researcher at a biopharmaceutical company in Westchester. She has fought for environmental justice and co-leads the effort to replace the Wheelabrator both sustainably and affordably.

Rabbi Michael Goldman will moderate and draw connections to our Jewish practices and ideas. After the presentation, he will encourage listeners to share their personal experiences with composting.
