Not Like In The Movies: Filmmaking as a Spiritual Practice presented by Tova Hopemark in dialogue with Ivy Eisenberg

Havdalah will be followed by the presentation.
Bet Am Shalom Member Tova Hopemark, PhD will explore creativity as a spiritual practice vis-a-vis her filmmaking experience. She may also share excerpts from her recent projects — and perhaps one of her films-in-progress — which center on female experiences that are not typically depicted on screen.
Tova is an actor, writer, and filmmaker. She loves using humor to destigmatize experiences that carry shame. Her debut film, a comedy about depression, was named BEST OF FEST (Glass Ceiling Breakers) and won BEST SHORT OF NEW ENGLAND (The Massachusetts Independent Film Festival). Amy Poehler is sponsoring her solo show HEIRLOOM which opens at The Tank NYC in December. The pilot of a web series she co-created premiered at the SOHO International Film Festival in September.
Tova will be in conversation with our member Ivy Eisenberg, who in her spare time is an acclaimed writer, storyteller and comic.
