Hunger Project

Our amazing Education Director, Abby Reiken created, in conjunction with the Social Action Chevra, a program to help participants of all ages understand hunger in our local communities. Participants learned about and experienced ways they can get involved with BAS initiatives to address hunger throughout the year. They made apple muffins for the Open Arms Shelter, prepared trail mix bags for a food distribution day at El Centro Hispano, and decorated paper bags for the next Midnight Run. Children decorated posters with Jewish texts on hunger, and Rabbi Bronstein led a learning piece about Jewish values on providing food to those in need. Participants brought canned food for the BAS Corners of Our Fields Food Drive and created “can”struction projects to inspire others to fight hunger.
The following photographs, taken by Bernie Klinger and Abby Reiken, show what happened during this important program.
