Amy Shapiro-Kessler is a licensed social worker, educator, and nonprofit leader, who graduated with honors from Hunter College School of Social Work and magna cum laude from SUNY Purchase with a B.S. in Psychology. Amy’s graduate degree included a dual concentration in Nonprofit Management & Administration and Community Organizing, with a specialization in Children & Families.
Amy’s own joyful early Jewish experiences in religious school, youth groups, and Jewish summer camp shaped her career path, as she combined her love of Judaism with her skills and educational background. Amy has worked as a synagogue educator and administrator for over 25 years… and counting.
Since 2003, Amy’s full time professional role is Executive Director of Ansche Chesed, a thriving Conservative synagogue on the Upper West Side. Prior to this, Amy was Director of Education at Greenburgh Hebrew Center from 2015-2023. In this role, Amy was responsible for the oversight, planning and administration of the religious school, early childhood center, youth groups and post B’nei Mitzvah programming. She is also currently on the Board of Trustees of Temple Beth Abraham as the Co-Chair of the Board of Education and a proud member of the Mosaic Advisory Committee of the Westchester Jewish Council.
Amy is thrilled to be joining the Bet Am Shalom community as the Interim Director of Jewish Education. She is excited to get to know all the students and their families, and work with such wonderful clergy, staff and lay leaders. Amy has two children, 12 and 15 years old, and two rescue dogs. In her free time, Amy likes to be outdoors – reading and relaxing, on the water, hiking, or camping.
