Abby Reiken joined the Bet Am Shalom community in July 2011. As Education Director, Abby heads our youth and education programs for grades K-12, including family education programming.

Abby has a rich and varied background as a Jewish educator and leader. She worked for 12 years at Temple Israel Center in White Plains, NY, serving as Family Educator, Youth Director Supervisor, Assistant Educational Director and teacher. Abby was also a curriculum writer and teacher for Project Etgar: A Middle School Curriculum for Conservative Supplementary Schools, developing components that are used in more than 30 schools throughout the United States.

Abby holds a B.S. from Brandeis University (Psychology, magna cum laude) and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley College.   She also has done graduate work in education and Judaic Studies at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles.

Abby is certified in Elementary Education. She has received numerous awards, including the Solomon Schechter Gold Award for excellence in family education programming, the Grinspoon Foundation Teaching Award for excellence and commitment to Jewish education, and METNY USCJ awards for excellence in synagogue programming and social action programming.  Abby and her husband Steve have three daughters.
