Meet Lisa Jacobs!

Our new Director of Family Education and Engagement, Lisa Jacobs, was available to meet congregants and answer questions on Zoom during the evening of Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

She told us that Torah L’Am plans to be held in person this fall. Lisa will emphasize DEIB: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. She believes in the development of empathy among children as well as individual learning plans for all. She intends to have conversations about racial justice with our kids.

Lisa spoke of her interest in, and sensitivity to, parents and their needs. She is about to begin a remote learning graduate program in Israel Education at George Washington University and wants to have conversations about Israel with our children. She wants to build on the idea of listening, with a curriculum based on knowledge, connections to the people of Israel, and “Stance”.

She intends to begin her time at Bet Am with a “Listening Tour,” getting to know our congregation, and learning what we want. A goal of hers is to institute a Ruach-based Sunday morning component to Torah L’Am… trying to build community and enthusiasm with her music background.

She is open to meeting everyone individually.
