Marcia’s Light at BAS
Marcia’s Light is a Foundation started by members Richard Cohen and his beautiful wife, the late Marcia Horowitz. Its mission is to promote engagement among people of diverse backgrounds, to recognize and respect our differences, and to promote a more just and productive society. Marcia’s Light provides “small setting” opportunities for people of different ethnic groups to learn about each other and form friendships. Children from Bet Am Shalom and and from Youth Community Outreach Program in Mount Vernon, New York were recent beneficiaries of Marcia’s Light’s largesse. For one program our BAS kids traveled to Most Vernon, and for the other, the YCOP kids traveled to BAS. Our director of Family Engagement, Lisa Jacobs, coordinated and led the programming. Rabbi Bronstein gathered all the children around the Torah at Bet Am Shalom, providing a magical experience. In fact, both days of interaction, were magical and very important.
